MONASTERIES
Many interesting monasteries are to be found on Samos. The most important is the monastery of Megali Panagia, built some 400 years ago by the monks Neilos and Pavlos. The oldest monastery on the island is Agia Zoni, in the valley of Vlamari, which still preserves its original beautiful icons. The monastery of
Timios Stavros houses an immaculately wood-carved iconostasis, considered to be one of the best in Greece. Zoodochos Pigi is a remarkable Byzantine monastery on the top of the Rabaidoni mountain, with a superb view of the Asia Minor coast.
