- KOUMEIKA
The first settlers came to the village from the city of Kymi in Evoia Island. The inhabitants are fishermen or farmers who grow olive-trees and onions. 15 minutes outside the village, there is Balos Beach which is awarded the blue flag of the European Union. There you can find bars a restaurants as well as a small dock for sailing-ships.
- MANOLATES
Leaving Agios Konstantinos heading to Manolates, the road passes through the area known as 'Aidonia'. The visitor can see a stream and many trees that reach up to 15 meters high. Wandering around Manolates you can see hens, goats and donkeys that are the only mean of transportation for the farmers. There is also good food, wine and coffee in taverns and bars found in Manolates. Another road leads to Stavrinides.
- MESOGEIA
Nine kilometers outside Pyrgos, you can find Mesogeia village that used to be called Kato Arvanites. According to tradition, two brothers from Albania with their families came to Mt. Ambelos, 400 meters above sea-level, and built their homes there. They lived isolated from the rest of the island. They were Christians and spoke an Illyrian dialect that nobody on the island understood. Their descendants built after many years the village known as Mesogeia.
- MYLOI
This beautiful village is built 22 kilometers outside the city of Samos, next to Imvrasos River. Myloi ('mills') took its name from the water-mills of the river. It is one of the oldest settlements of the village, founded in 1562 by people from the island of Patmos.
- NEOCHORI
The area is also known as 'Reikia'. There, you can find a workshop making traditional statuettes and miniatures. Following the road to Karlovasi, you will find the village Agios Theodoros named after the homonymous church.
- PAGONDAS
The village is built on 180 meters altitude, on the eastern side of Mt. Bournias. It is a traditional village with dense structure and tiled roofs. The view from the village is extraordinary. It is like a porch looking out over the villages of the valley and the sea.
- PALEOCHORI
A small seaside settlement at the west edge of Samos close to Plaka, Agios Ioannis beach and the monastery of Agios Ioannis the Eleimonos.
- PALEOKASTRO
The village of Palaiokastro is named after the ancient Cyclopean wall whose relics can be found near the chapel of Agios Tryfonas
- PANDROSO
A small village at the slopes of mount Ampelos just a couple of km after Mesogeia.
The village is built near Amfillisus River. According to tradition, a shepherd's family, coming from Peloponnesus, found the location very pleasant and decided to settle in the area. The people are mostly farmers producing olive-oil, wine and honey. The visitor can find many stores selling honey and fragrant herbs.
- SPATHAREOI
Spathareoi village is built 320 meters above sea-level. The village is traditional, offers a beautiful panoramic view and preserves the traditional architecture of Mediterranean villages. The first inhabitant of the island was a priest called Petros Spathas. This priest had 18 children which built the houses of the settlement. Some claim the village is 499 years old. |
