Season 1: WINTER INVITATION TO SAMOS

A. Christmas: Christmas in Samos is a period with a special color. In fact it is the place where the traditional component meets the modern. The light of the Holly Days changes with the light from the hundred lights that decorate every corner of the towns and the villages in general.

For instance, at Ano Vathy, one of the old and traditional Thorpe in Samos, that is being situated under smooth hills at the depth of the gulf, the decorated old houses with the wooden balconies that compose a mosaic of old times.

And because of the fact that your visit to Samos in this period will be not only once sense experience -watch- but also flavors, you should not omit to taste the special filled cock dish that is the traditional meal.

B. New Yeas Eve: There are many celebrations that take place, especially in New Years Day in the "Pythagoras" Square of Vathy young people and not only are being gathered and awaiting for Santa Claus to distribute them many gifts. Also, there are Dancing groups that entertain with traditional Samian Dances.

Thus, the Climbing Club of Samos organize at the mountain "Kerkis" walking at the unique, green paths that comprise one huge Ecological Park with wild beauty and magnificent fauna and flora.

Excursions are being organized in the breathtaking region of "Aidonia", with the high trees, brooks, rivers and the traditional paths, and also to the hydro biotope of "Aliki" with the rare birds like wild ducks, gooses, flamingoes etc.

For your entertainment, there will be 24 clubs open so as to disport yourselves every night till the early morning hours!

As concerning the food experience , you will have the up most opportunity to dine in many traditional taverns and restaurants, in order to taste of the local wild boar , the roasted pork of the Holly days , as the local called it, also pork with celery, accompanied with the tasteful Samian Wine!

C. Carnival: the carnival proceedings in Samos acquire the real meaning of the season. Old year's customs survive until today inviting the locals and tourists to forget their worries and get infatuated to "Dionysos Arms"!

Carnival Events are being organized in Vathy, Spathareoi and Marathokampos.

First of all at Vathy is being relived the traditional Wedding of Samians.
On the Sunday of Carnival two men dressed as groom and bride start from Ano Vathy and with the escort of traditional music instruments and many carnivals pass by all the neighbors of the town, laughing and making jokes. This Carnival wedding comes up at the "Pythagoras Square" in which is being carried out the wedding ceremony. When the ceremony ends it follows the wedding party, in which food, beverage and music in a feast of carnival celebration reaches the peak at the late hours of the night with fireworks onto the Samian sky.

Spatharaioi:In Spatharaioi Village we will discover the custom of "Kadis".
This is a satiric trial, a parody of Kadides-judges of the Turk domination in Greece, in which one music player plays the traditional "Tsabouna" instrument and the participants are telling satiric carnival jokes.

Marathokambos: In Marathokambos we will see the "Frantzolia" custom. This is a combination of a popular fiesta and carnival binge. Young and old people take part in this fiesta having fun by making jokes. Also on Monday take place the flying kites award.
